Curriculum

2012-2013 Curriculum
I LOVE The Well Trained Mind book by Susan Wise Bauer. I use most of her ideas because they just make sense to me!

Aspen- 2nd grade

BibleErgermeiers Bible Story Book
Telling God's Story 1 with Activity Guide

Math- Teaching Textbooks 3 and Math Mammoth Both of these are great programs, but I feel like TT lacks mental math, so we supplement with Math Mammoth.

Grammar- Growing with Grammar and First Language Lessons 2 I will alternate these two programs. GWG is more workbook oriented and Aspen enjoys it.  FLL includes copy work, memorization of poems and much more than GWG.  Both programs compliment each other nicely.

Writing- Winning with Writing
Writing with Ease 2  Again, alternating these programs. WWW is work bookish while WWE includes learning to narrate and organize thoughts into writing, as well as copy work and dictation.  daily journaling

Spelling- Rod and Staff Spelling

GeographyRoad Trip USA We will learn continents, oceans, all the states and capital and where they   are located this year!

History- Story of the World Volume 1 Ancients Aspen will read several books that go along with what  we are studying.

Science- REAL Science for Kids Chemistry level 1
Apologia Zoology 1 with Activity book
We plan to do both program 2 days a week and alternate those days. For example, we will do Chemistry on Tuesday and Thursday and Zoology on Monday and Wednesday.  My kiddo's love Science, and I love the depth that both these programs.

Reading- Rod and Staff Reading and Phonics  I love this series because the readers are bible stories. Love it!  The phonics are extremely thorough as well!!   I will also assign several novels of different genres too.  I want her to be able to choose many of her own to ensure a love of reading.

Aiden Kindergarten
**Aiden will begin first grade work but we will take a year and a half to cover it.  He is honestly beyond Kindergarten and asks for more.  :)

Bible, Geography, History and Science- Same as above.  I will be teaching them both the same thing and assigning things based on their level.

Math- Rod and Staff Math 1  I decided to start him on first grade math, because he is ready.  However, we will probably spread this over the remainder of this year and next.

Phonics/Reading- Rod and Staff Phonics/Reading 1  We had already started this before he went to kindergarten because he was begging to learn to read. Their are 5 units and he is about to start the 3rd unit.

Grammar - First Language Lessons 1

Writing- handwriting without tears  and Writing with Ease 1
